What I build on Cloudflare:
- Serverless API at the edge: authentication (JWT), rate limiting, webhooks, middleware.
- R2 for file storage, replaces S3 and cuts egress fees.
- D1 (serverless SQL) and Durable Objects (real-time, shared state).
- Edge RAG with Workers AI + Vectorize: upload, extraction, embeddings, search.
- AWS Lambda → Workers migration to reduce cost and latency.
Why Cloudflare: low latency worldwide, controlled costs, and a single provider for compute, storage and AI. My default when global speed or cost matter.
Observed order of magnitude: for 1 TB of files served per month, R2 costs around twenty euros where S3 exceeds 90 EUR due to egress. A Worker starts with no measurable cold start, while a Lambda can take several hundred milliseconds cold.
