The principle is simple: your documents are split into passages, turned into vectors and stored in a vector database. For every question, the most relevant passages are retrieved and the model writes an answer only from them, with a link to the source. That's what sets a RAG application apart from a general-purpose ChatGPT: no "from memory" answers, no inventing about your business.
